Born in the Mississippi Delta town of Richey in 1941. Woods graduated from Anguilla High School and Mississippi State University with a BS Degree in Forest Management. He worked in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California on the Tahoe National Forest near Lake Tahoe. After 2 years, he returned home and worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, serving thirty-eight years until his retirement in 2003. He also served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for twelve years.
Woods and his wife, Mary Anne, have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. They moved from Vicksburg to Raymond in 2013 to be near their daughter and 2 grandsons, Hawkins and Holden. They have enjoyed being members of the Raymond United Methodist Church.
Woods is a staff writer for 3 monthly newspapers; Southwest Rankin, Hinds County News and Byram Banner. His articles are titled "FRONT PORCH RAMBLINGS". He usually sits on the front porch, early in the morning, sometimes before day break, depending on the temperature, sipping coffee with Mary Anne and commits his words to paper.
Woods is the author of 5 mystery/thriller novels which he began writing after a heart attack slowed his daily activities at his chosen vocation. A 6th novel is in the works. Writing, wood working, gardening, traveling to points of interest in this country with family and RV friends are the hobbies he enjoys most. Those hobbies keep life interesting and helps keep Woods' wanderlust, somewhat under control. Woods enjoys talking to interesting people at autographing sessions and never meets a stranger. He loves the challenge of making new pieces of one-of-a kind furniture out of wood he harvested and cured and writing deathly prose.
